Goat, sheep and cow cheeses.

Abbe's Bio

abbeAbbe Turner exemplifies the wholesome and joy-filled concept of pasture to plate, shortening the distance from farm to table by lovingly managing the entire process, bringing tasty, fresh local food to happy palates throughout the region.

Abbe is the milkmaid at her family goat dairy, Lucky Penny Farm in Garrettsville, Ohio; the cheesemaker at Lucky Penny Creamery in nearby Kent; the confectioner for Lucky Penny Candy; and the restaurateur at Farm Girls Pub & Grub in downtown Alliance. The goat and sheep milk produced at partner farms is handcrafted into artisanal cheeses (Chevre, Feta, Ricotta), award-winning confections (Cajeta), and other wholesome, nutritious dairy specialties made available at farm markets and fine restaurants throughout Ohio, week after week.

Abbe studied her craft at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Pennsylvania Association of Sustainable Agriculture. She also honed her skills under dairy consultants Peter Dixon and Neville McNaughton.

A Slow Food Terra Madre Delegate, Abbe was selected to represent the Cleveland Slow Food Convivium in Turin, Italy in 2008 -- the same year her Cajeta (traditional Mexican caramel dessert sauce made from goat milk) earned second place in the American Dairy Goat Association’s Amateur Confection Contest.

In 2012, Abbe introduced Lucky Penny Cajeta nationally at the Fancy Food Show in Washington, DC. Enthusiastic feedback, inquiries and orders resulted from that exposure.
