July 22, 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. A Place To Grow: Voices and Images of Urban Gardeners
Jeff St. Clair and Lynn Gregor
“A Place To Grow: Voices and Images of Urban Gardeners” is a collection of stories and photographs of Cleveland’s community gardeners. These stories demonstrate how urban community gardens beautify vacant lots, build community among neighbors, and produce fresh, nutritious vegetables in areas that need it most. The stories were gathered through interviews and are in the gardeners’ authentic voices. Co-editors, David Hassler and Lynn Gregor will share how the book came about and perform a dramatic reading of the stories. Lynn worked for Ohio State University Extension’s Community Gardening Program in Cuyahoga County for eight years and will give an overview of community gardens and how they work. As the Director of the Wick Poetry Center at Kent State University, David conducts poetry writing workshops with people of all ages throughout northeast Ohio. Books will be for sale following the presentation.
